Data Collection Tools         As a future educator, I could see where data collection has its benefits. In statistics we used a lot of data collection tools for our assignments. However, as an aspiring English educator, I don’t see myself using many survey tools for course-related instruction. That being said, I don’t think surveys are useless in an English setting. I could use them to check in with students and see how they’re doing throughout the year. They could also be used for feedback on certain assignments so I can gauge their understanding of the materials and subject matter. I do think that is important for students to understand how to appropriately use and respond to surveys.   Interesting Topics within Classmates Blogs         Reading through my classmates’ blogs has been an interesting and enlightening endeavor. It has provided me with a greater range of resources than I previously had coming into this semester. It was nice to read of their own, sometimes shared experien

My Experience  with  Distance Learning (so far...)   My experience with distance learning has been nothing short of a  sh ** experience. I have often found myself extremely unmotivated in every aspect of my personal and academic life. Why should I do school work when I can lay in bed? Why do I have to wake up for classes when I can just sleep through them and do the work later? I honestly feel like I haven’t learned much this year, I feel like I’m just posting work at 11:59pm on Friday/Sunday and scamming my way through University. I know that is a sentiment that resonates with a lot of people. There are times when I get a short burst of productivity but they don’t last very long. This has simultaneously been the easiest and hardest year of my academic career. I honestly don’t know what I could do to improve this experience for myself or for my future students.   Open Educational Resources (OER)   Open educational resources are easily and freely accessible, openly licensed text, medi

Web Design Project    Okay so this project was a doozy. I had never designed a webpage in my life; to be honest, I had never even thought about designing one. Designing our project through Weebly was an interesting feat. It was difficult, initially; however, it progressively became easier. The only thing I didn’t like about the project was initial difficulty I had with Weebly; it was very frustrating. Once those issues were out of the way everything went pretty smoothly. I can honestly see myself creating a webpage in the future for my future students. I feel it is extremely beneficial for students AND parents to have that kind of resource available to them. Here is the link to my webpage if you’re curious.     Diigo    I’m going to be quite honest, when I read the question attached to this blog assignment, I had no idea what  Diigo  assignment was being referred to. I went back and looked at my assignment history. And then I realized.... it was meant in a general sense (I think). S

School Websites   Okay so, writing this reflection will be the easy part of this entire ordeal. I literally struggled SO hard to find a teacher’s class website. I had to resort to entering “Mrs. [insert generic surname]’s Class” into the google search bar, luckily that worked. After half an hour of searching, I came across Mrs. Collins’s webpage —she is a Digital Literacy teacher. On her site she has a gallery filled with photos of her family and herself, as well as her classroom and activities. She has resources available for grades K-5. She also has a very detailed About Me which lists her credentials and her experience as a teacher among many other things. Screenshots of her website are presented below. Using Technology in a Professional Setting   As an English teacher I envision myself using technology quite a bit, you know... when our noses aren’t in books. Microsoft and Google are definitely at the top of my list. I know that sounds pretty generic but... yeah, anyway. I will make

Diigo      I quite like  Diigo . It is a very interesting tool and which allows us to bookmark and tag web pages that others can access. I like looking at other people’s bookmarked articles and resources as well as reading their annotations. However, it can be pretty difficult to navigate at times.   Blogging    Blogging is a fun process; however, it can be pretty tedious at times. I find it quite difficult to find things to say but I appreciate how all of the prompts are relevant to our weekly coursework—it makes things a little easier. I like reading other people’s perspectives regarding and seeing how they vary from mine. It is also interesting to see everyone else’s writing styles. I’m not very experienced with blogging so it has taken some adjusting.   Web 2.0 Tools    Dropbox is probably one of my favorite Web 2.0 tools and I see myself using it a lot in my classroom. It saves time and is very efficient in organizing and keeping up with all of your files. I used it a lot througho

Digital Divide retrieved from The Daily Star Experiences  with  Twitter    Prior to this class I never used Twitter; I didn’t think it was necessary because I had already been using other forms of social media that served the same purpose. However; I didn’t realize then how naïve I was being. Twitter has an entirely different dynamic to it... your tweets can reach the likes of thousands of people in a matter of minutes. It is very effective in transferring information making it an effective platform for a variety of people as well as businesses and organizations. So far, I’ve only been using it to keep up with all things concerning politics and education—and it has done well at keeping me updated—other than that I haven’t really found my own space on Twitter. I can see this platform being beneficial in my future career for the same reasons I’ve mentioned before. It is very effective in keeping people informed about things happening locally and nationally.    The Digital Divide     Th
