ELA Technology Standards   For this reflection I chose grades 11-12 and standard  LAFS.1112.RH.3.7  deals with integrating and evaluating varying sources of information depicted in different media or formats (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) to address concerns and solve problems. I chose this standard specifically because it is one  I am familiar with. If you were to ask me on a scale of 1-10 how comfortable I would be implementing this I’d settle for about a 6. I’m not certain that I could effectively implement this standard because my current skill-set is pretty limited... I mean I just recently learned how to use Microsoft Word if that says anything. Aside from that, I have limited experience with Excel or Google Sheets. I feel that I need to develop my own understanding before I could efficiently transfer that into a classroom setting.    CPALMS Educator Toolkit    I could totally see myself using CPALMS religiously, more specifically, the lesson plans they provide/suggest

Copyright and Fair Use    Copyright is the exclusive legal right, given to an originator or an assignee to print, publish, film, or record various material, and to authorize others to do the same. Thanks Google. Copyright laws protect artists and their work from being stolen and used without permission. Teachers aren’t exempt from copyright laws; they have to be careful with the materials they utilize in their classroom and in their lessons. Copyright laws are a means to incentivize artists to create work whilst allaying any fears they may have regarding misuse and theft of their works. This is sort of where fair use comes into play. Fair use allows for the use of copyrighted material without the owner’s exclusive permission. This rule provides teachers with a little more wiggle room when planning lessons and activities for their classroom. With regards to students, it is always encouraged to practice copyright laws—especially when composing essays—because any infringement could resu

Experience with Microsoft Word     None! I think tonight was the first night I’ve used Microsoft Word and I think I screamed internally at least six times; that is unless you refer to my resume where it states truthfully that I’m a pro in everything Microsoft—totally not a lie by the way. However, I am pretty acquainted with this thing called Google and she’s been there for me through all of my essays. You may think I’m a loser...but don’t worry, so do I. Google Docs is all I used throughout high school; however, I’m sure with a little practice it’ll be pretty simple to pick up the mechanics of Microsoft.    What is the most important  standard  for Educators?    The ISTE Standards for Educators has a list of standards for educators [insert wink]. However, I would have to argue that the most important standard for an educator would have to be “learner.” Knowledge is always changing and expanding. I feel like in order to be an effective educator you have to continue learning. Educator

Technology   by   Mervi Eskelinen  is licensed under  CC BY 2.0   Introduction  I’ve never written a blog before but I’m assuming it’s supposed to be casual. I guess you’re here because you want to know a little bit about me... well tough s***, I don’t give out that information for free. Nah I’m kidding, this is usually a conversation I’d have over dinner and a movie; however, in the name of COVID I suppose I can give you all a free-trial. My name should be obvious, I turned eighteen on July 3 rd  — yes, my zodiac sign is Cancer [insert gag]. My favorite color is green, more specifically the color of malachite — you should look it up. I’m a freshman at Florida State majoring in English Education... can’t wait to live the rest of my life impoverished! I’m joking of course, it’s not about the money for me...clearly. Kids have a special place in my heart — except the ones between ages one and thirteen and the ones named Nick, Jacob, Jonathan, or Kyle. The rest of them are cool though. A
